Data Security is a must! As long as we have used computers, there has been the age-old question. "What happens if my hard drive breaks"? While the components have become more reliable and innovations like redundant hard drives give us more security, there is still more help needed. Where's my data now? All good computer systems include a way to keep a copy of the business data off-site. This means that if there is a disaster of any type, whether man-made or natural, all of the business data will not be distroyed. For the past 20 plus years, the de facto standard is the tape drive. The great thing about these units is that they can hold large amounts of data, surpassing 100 Gigabytes of data. The downsides of tape backup systems are: - Tape drives are expensive
- The tapes can be fragile and expensive
- Systems require daily observation
- If data doesn't make it off-site for whatever reason, a disaster will render the backup useless
In the past few years, technological improvements have created portable hard drives, allowing a more reliable backup to be created. However, the downsides of hard drive backup systems are: - A proper system requires many hard drives
- Large Hard drives are heavy, not easily transported
- Systems require daily observation
If data doesn't make it off-site for whatever reason, a disaster will render the backup useless. |
| How does it work? - A BTI Engineer installs the Remote Backup software on the system where your data is stored, whether file server or PC.
- The software is configured to copy the data you request. Other options include the amount of days yo would like us to keep that data available.
- While on-site, we run the initial backup of yor data, capturing a complete copy of your data.
- After we copy your initial backup to our Remote backup server, we configure the system to receive your daily changes.
- Each day we review the logs and verify that the backup
How do I protect my data privacy? While we all have data that we can't afford to lose equally important is protecting the privacy of our data. To protect your data, it is encrypted, which prevents anyone outside of your organization from reading it, including our Engineers. The encryption uses a fromula to change the data in the file so it cannot be read without the password that only you have. Not only is the data unreadable, but the file name is changed to the extent that it is impossible to understand what the file is without restoring to your computer using your password! In addition, our system is fully compliant with the HIPAA secruity rules governing data protection.
